“All of our origins are made up of histories and memories. They are made up of places that are compound and layered on top of each other and which are stitched together across time and across place.” Ekow Eshun, curator.
Evans Mbugua is known for his vibrant artworks which document his lived experiences through human interactions set against his imaginary urban landscapes. Born in Nairobi and based in Paris, Mbugua pursues reflections on the individual and the links that bind him to the society.
In his latest iteration “Reconstructed Identities”, Mbugua explores themes of trauma and reconstruction. His creative process takes a new turn as can be seen in this new body of works inspired by ancient techniques such as stained glass and Kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken pots).
